BROOMFIELD, CO - September
26 2007. Branford, Connecticut, has contracted with Innoprise
Software, Inc. for a new technology solution that will replace the
town’s GeoPlan legacy building and permits system and
manual planning and zoning system. Branford is located in the
South Central Connecticut and provides town services to 29,500
citizens.
The Innoprise Community Development software will support
Branford’s need to better serve applicants by offering a web
application that allows simple permits online and the ability to check
the status of more complex development projects. The new software
includes built-in workflow automation features that track each step of
the town’s complex land management process, from planning, zoning,
permitting, land development, building plan review, building
inspections, licensing and code enforcement. The Code
Enforcement and Planning and Zoning modules will be implemented first,
going into production in Q4 2007, followed by Permitting and Occupation
Licenses.
The decision to purchase new software was driven by the need
to implement a web friendly system that was integrated across
departments. Another key business driver was inherent Internet
capability. The town wanted to provide Internet based status
inquiry to citizens in every phase of the planning, zoning and
permitting process. According to Peter Hugret, Director of
Information Technology for the town, the challenge was to find a system
that uses a process approach capable of meeting both existing and
future functional requirements with the ability to be easily tailored
to the town’s requirements.
After an intense selection process, the Town of Branford
selected Innoprise Software. “The process driven approach to the
individual permit types allow us to reflect our requirements and at the
same time keep others including the applicant aware of the status of
their application. Because we do a fair amount of simple permits for
such things as septic tank pump outs, roofing, electrical service
upgrades, etc., the ability to take a permit request over the web and
respond without the citizen having to take time out of their day to
come to the town hall was a major factor in our decision,” explained
Hugret.
