BROOMFIELD, CO - October 15,
2007. The City of Portland, Connecticut has contracted with Innoprise
Software, Inc. for new enterprise software that will replace the city’s
current legacy system. The city purchased Innoprise
Financial Management, Payroll and Human Resources software, along with
implementation and training services. Portland is located in
central Connecticut and retains its proud New England character.
The City services a population of approximately 9,300 customers.
Innoprise Financial Management will be the first software
package to be implemented starting in November 2008. Innoprise
Payroll and Human Resources software will follow.
The decision to purchase new software was driven by the need
to replace Portland’s existing system that has not been updated in
about 20 years. According to Rob Buden, Director of Finance for the
city, the challenge was to find a system that did not have a legacy
foundation, rather used next generation technology. “Our staff was
crippled with our existing system,” said Buden. “Many tasks are
manual as our system was limited in supporting payroll electronic funds
transfers, plus deduction checks and files cannot be electronically
remitted to vendors. Also, our general ledger lacks detail and
reporting is insufficient,” added Buden.
The Innoprise application utilizes the latest technology, a
Java™ 2 Platform, along with a service-oriented architecture. Many
built-in workflow automation features streamline standard business
functions, as well as the ability to support user-defined, workflow
based business rules that govern how business processes are assigned,
completed and approved in budgeting and purchasing processes. The
software's open architecture and flexibility enable users to improve
productivity.
“The selection committee for the City of Portland was most
impressed that every user can tailor their screens to view system
information independently, along with ease of use and dynamic
reporting. Another key feature was the application is available to every
employee’s desk, regardless of an IBM or Apple computer. If a
user has a web browser, they can access any Innoprise application,”
explained Buden.
“We seriously considered two other comprehensive solutions and
found that Innoprise was by far the best solution to replace our
current system. By implementing Innoprise applications, Portland
will benefit with improved customer service, faster customization, less
expensive maintenance and lower integration costs,” said Buden.
